School catches fire in S. Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) — A high school caught fire in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province on Thursday, provincial police spokesman Mullah Asadullah Jamshid said Friday.
The school known as “Abdul Qadim Patyal Lycee,” which served as a girls’ school, caught fire for an unknown reason in Kandahar’s provincial capital Kandahar city on Thursday evening, with its property damaged, the official said.
The fire was extinguished by firefighters and locals soon, the official added without furnishing more details.
A similar accident inflicted huge property damage to the local shopkeepers after a market caught fire in Kandahar city a week ago. ■
