Two men have been arrested and charged with a 2022 North Jersey murder in which they’re accused of ambushing a man outside his home, authorities said Monday.
Kedrick Chatmon, 37, and Lamare R. Walker, 45, were nabbed Thursday at their New Jersey homes, the Monmouth County prosecutor’s office said in a press release.
The two men were accused of killing Marques Mills at his home in Neptune Township on May 14, 2022, around 11 p.m.
Mills, 39, had just started driving away from the home when at least two people jumped out of bushes near the home and opened fire on his vehicle, according to reports at the time. Mills was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his wounds.
“He had a troubled past, but he was turning his life around,” his father, George Mills, told the Asbury Park Press at the time. “He was doing well.”
Chatmon was arrested in his hometown of Keansburg, and Walker was collared in his hometown of Barnegat, the prosecutor’s office said. They were formally charged with one count each of first-degree murder and first-degree murder conspiracy, taken to Monmouth County jail and will have detention hearings on Dec. 3.
Authorities did not publicly speculate on a motive for the attack.
