    Description

These original photographs, with the original negatives in the original photo envelope from the photo developer were purchased from the estate of nephew of Evelyn Venable who inherited her estate when she passed away. Her husband, Hal Mohr, was the cinematographer for the movie, "The Green Pastures". The envelope is marked "snaps from "Green Pastures" and dated "7/14/36". The Green Pastures was one of only 6 movies made in the Studio Era with a completely black cast. These 5"X 4" glossy photos show the cast in scenes from the movie. I don't know if these were the dailies taken for continuity or just snaps taken. I don't know who the photographer was. There is a name written along the top of the envelope near the date but I can't quite make it out, probably the person designated to drop them off and pick them up.  The original negatives are also included in the envelope. The photos are in very good condition no yellowing, nice and clear. There are some light scratches and imperfections that look to be in the original photos. In looking at the negatives are in sections of the scenes, they appear to be in pretty good condition the images strong, with some light scratching and scuffing. The envelope has some small rips, has been folded above the photo's and has a little light creasing. I had a nice gentleman who seemed to know about early Hollywood point out that if they were studio shots they would have been developed in studio so as to who would have had these taken and printed it is a mystery but we do know that they were in the collection of Hal Morh's wife's estate.
