Antique 1800’s French Regency Chess Set Embossed Dragon Sea Creature XL Board
There are a few pieces from the chess set that show wear or natural defects as highlighted in photos. 2 black pawns do not have as high of a gloss as the others. No felt on bottoms of pieces (original). The King measures 3 1/4” tall.
The board is extra large measuring 21 1/2” long and about 14 3/4” wide. This is a very old board featuring embossed or stenciled dragons/sea creatures with additional stenciling in the design as shown in the border of the board. There are scratches and signs of use commensurate with age.
The design on the board looks French not Asian to me. It almost looks as though there are tiny French fleur de lis in each corner of the board. This set was purchased from an old European Estate.
