Description
This is a 3 map set which shows where many of the homeowners resided in Johnston, Rhode Island in 1870. These fine maps were recently reproduced on fine natural color parchment. They're 11"x 17" and suitable to fit a standard size frame or can be matted to fit a larger museum quality mat.The pictures provided show only portions of the actual maps, please feel free to contact me with any questions!
Contained on the maps are finely detailed locations of the homesteads with the owners name shown. Due to large areas covered by the maps, many of the names of the homeowners are quite small. The first map (first 2 pics) shows the entire Town of Johnston which contain the towns or villages of Johnston, Hughesdale, Simmonsville, Greystone, Lymansville, Fountain Spring, Merino, Thornton & Centerdale. The second map contains 7 inset maps of the towns of Centerdale, Manton Village, Hughesdale, Morgan Mills, Fruit Hill, Dyerville & Allendale and more business directories. The third map shows the area known then as Plain Farm & Silver Lake. Truly a great matching set!! It's hard to make out the specifics from my poor picture however it's clearly detailed on the actual maps!
Some of the surnames which are printed are Smith, Reed Brown, Atwood, Sprague, Whipple, Hale, Kerr, Belknap, Sweet, Gray, Clark, Wilson and so many more that it's impossible to list! Also indicated on the maps are schools, businesses, named streets, railroads and rivers/streams.
It would indeed make quite a conversation piece as well as an excellent gift for that person who has everything! What a great genealogical treasure to be able to locate the homes of one or more of your ancestors!
