Description
This is a group of 3 map sets which show where some of the home and landowners lived in the Town of Rye, Westchester County, New York in 1910. (plates 33-34-35) These maps were reproduced on fine natural color parchment. They're 11"x 17" and suitable to fit a standard size frame or can be matted to fit a larger museum quality mat.The pictures provided show portions of the actual maps! Please contact for more information!
Contained on the maps are finely detailed locations of the homes, lots and estates for this time period. Each map set is actually one map split into two to show better detail. Due to the limited size of my scanner bed only a portion of each map is shown. Please note that although many surnames are present, many of the more heavily populated sections and the undeveloped areas won't show them. Some of the surnames which are clearly printed are O'Day, Mills, Bonsall, Hammond, Preston, Beyea, Ford, Cowles, Purdy, Macy, Allen, Sterling, Fisk, Haines, Towle, Van Amringe, Walden and so many more that it's impossible to list! Also indicated on the map are schools, named streets, cemeteries, some businesses, railroads and rivers/streams. Due to the limited size of my scanner bed, portions of the maps may not be shown.
Some of the features located on these maps are --Hen Island, Milton Point, Pine Island, American Yacht Club, Shenorock Shore Club ( land then owned by M. L. Catlin), Marshland County Park ( owned by London & Edinburgh Co.), Rye Golf Club ( land then owned by George Park & John Parsons), Van Amringe Mill Pond, Crane Island, Spike Island, Pops Rocks, Otter creek, Mamaroneck Beach & Cabana Club (then known as M.O.M.H. Association), Peningo Neck, Parsonage Point, Greenhaven, Oakland Beach, Rye Town Park, Rye beach, Milton, Greenwood Union Cemetery and the land where Playland Park is presently. Manursing Island, Kirby Pond (was Mill Pond), Rye Recreation Park ( land then owned by John & Mary Gwynn) Rye Nature Center (land then owned by M.C. Parsons & Mary Hammond), Apawamis Golf Club and so much more.
It would indeed make quite a conversation piece as well as an excellent gift for that person who has everything! What a great genealogical treasure to be able to locate the homes of one or more of your ancestors!
