Beautiful
Vintage Solid KOA WOOD Single Wine Bottle Holder
in the shape of a
WHALE'S TAIL
. It is a well figured piece of KOA wood, with reddish/orange color, flame, iridescence, curl & grain, all characteristic of this "rare" Hawaiian tropical wood along with a different look from every side. A gifted piece from 1997 as shown in signature under the holder, so it is nearly 25 years old as a vintage & who knows how much older beyond point of purchase? Solid & Heavy, I have photographed much if not all angles with the differences in the figure & grain of the wood.

. A nice little "sap" (lightly colored) area of wood apparent. Also noticeable is the significant "knot", which is unique imo. There are a few tick marks & a slightly rounded tip of the tail from use, but overall is easily a 9+ rating & well preserved.  It is a hand carved piece & when bottle is placed in the hole, it is well balanced as shown. I have scoured the internet/eBay/Etsy for anything comparable to this "Beauty", but nothing like it comes up, let alone hand carved from this rare
Hawaiian Koa Wood.
