Description
This consists of 8 different sets of maps which show where everyone lived in 1911. Each set shows a different section of Yonkers, Westchester County, New York. The purchaser will receive all 8 sets of maps. Each set consists of 2 matching maps.Listed here are the Plates (map sets)---------
1) From Metro North at Yonkers Station East to Midland Ave.and shows the Wards 1,4,7,8 & 9. (2 maps)
2) The area just North of Plate 1--From the Hudson River East to Midland Ave. and shows the Wards- 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 & 10. (2 maps)
3) This is a magnified map set of Wards 3 & 6. From the Hudson River East to Nepperhan Ave. (2 maps)
4) This is another magnified map set of Wards 6,9 & 10.From Nepperhan Ave East to what is now the Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway.(2 maps)
5) Another magnified map set of 3,6 & 10. From the Hudson River East toDewey Thruway and bordered Northerly by the Town of Greenburgh. (2 maps)
6) Contains the map set of Ward 7. This set shows the area around the Hillview Reservoir and the Empire City Trotting Track (Yonkers Raceway) and East to the Bronx River Rd. (2 maps)
7) Contains the map set of Wards 9 & 10. From Tuchahoe Station westerly to Central Park Ave. (2 maps)
8) Shows Ward 10 from the border of the Town of Greenburghto the North aand Eastchester to the East and Westerly to Grassy Sprain Rd.
These maps were recently reproduced on fine antique color parchment and are 11"x 17" and suitable to fit a standard size frame or can be matted to fit a larger museum quality mat. There are literally hundreds of homeowners shown on these maps. Also shown are the many planned sections or sub-divisions which were uninhabited, yet the lots are shown. Please note that the homeowners names in the more populated sections are not shown due to the availability of space. However the homeowners names are present for the many larger homesteads. Some of the surnames which are clearly printed are Parks, Simon, Corsa, Cockburn, Seaman, Reynolds, Iselin, Dusenberry, Laird, Huntington, Mooney, Smith, Evans, Mayer, Ellis, Sterling, De Rham, Donohue and so many more that it's impossible to list! Also indicated on the maps are schools, named streets, railroads and rivers/streams.
It would indeed make quite a conversation piece as well as an excellent gift for that person who has everything!
